Over There
I lie still and silent with you in the long grass of Gethsemane.Pulled on by our broken thoughts, we wait together.
Panting like dogs,Blood pounding around our brains,
Shaking with fear.
Excitement breathes from every pore.
In the distance, gunfire.
Another day in this broken land.
The buildings torn and tattered,Shell shocked and still.
And still the bullets come, squirting into the empty houses and shattered roads.
Hearts beat fast. Shall we jump the broken ragged fence?
Head for home, hand in hand.
Enraptured, terrified, here together, young and free.
We feel together,
We feel whole,
We are alive,
And for another day at least,The bullets remain,
Over there.
